Terminate whatever you had planned, because Arnold Schwarzenegger is baaaack this weekend with a brand new action-comedy series on Netflix. If big Arnie energy ain’t for you, don’t worry, a new season of The Kardashians and a new documentary about Mary Tyler Moore are here to bring some feminine energy to your living room, too.
Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.
And here we thought that everything was cool with the Kardashians when we watched Kourtney and Travis’s wedding special! Who knew there was so much family drama beneath the surface that we’ll get to watch play out on the new season of The Kardashians on Hulu? And while we’re on the subject of family drama, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new Netflix series FUBAR is full of it. After his real life stint as a Governor, he’s returned to his action-star roots to play a CIA Agent working opposite his own daughter, played by Monica Barbaro. And on Max, sitcom legend Mary Tyler Moore gets her due in the glowing documentary about her career, Being Mary Tyler Moore.
When discussing the new season of The Kardashians on The View last week, co-host Sara Haines said, “I don’t even know how you deduce what real life is in there.” It’s a valid point, the family has been living their lives as part of a TV show for so long at this point that it’s impossible to tell what, if anything, is really true. (Except for, you know, True Kardashian.) As The Kardashians starts its third season on Hulu, all their recent drama, from Kim’s breakup with Pete Davidson, to Kim and Kourtney’s fallout, will be documented in that same slick fashion as it always has been, adding context and emotional heft to the tabloid-y gossip we’ve only read about online for the past few months.
The premise of FUBAR sounds similar to the premise of one my my personal favorite shows, Alias: A father (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and daughter (Monica Barbaro) discover that they’re both secret agents for the CIA. But while Alias was mostly serious and full of family drama, FUBAR is mostly fun and full of family drama. On the Netflix show, Schwarzenegger plays Luke Brunner, a family man who is the owner of a sporting goods store… but that job is just a cover, in reality he’s actually a spy. And to complicate things, his own daughter, Emma, is deep undercover working for the crime syndicate Luke is pursuing. It’s implausible, silly and fun, and all eight episodes are available now on Netflix.
Mary Tyler Moore went from being a sitcom housewife on The Dick Van Dyke Show to a sitcom feminist on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and she is ultimately regarded as a legend of the sitcom format in general. In the HBO documentary Being Mary Tyler Moore, available to stream now on Max, her career and personal life are examined lovingly, with her close friends and those she influenced, like Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Rosie O’Donnell, going on the record about how she paved the way for them and so many others.
