The film industry is never short of fresh faces and new talent. Every year, Bollywood welcomes some young new actors and star kids to try their hand at the fame game. However, rising up the ladder of superstardom is no child’s play. Today we take a look back at actors from Salman Khan to Ankita Lokhande, Sooraj Pancholi and many others, who struggled to bag films after making their debut.
Actress Ankita Lokhande made headlines early this year when she spoke up about being unable to back any films after making her Bollywood debut. The actress, who made her mark in television sitcoms, crossed over to films with ‘Manikarnika,’ alongside Kangana Ranaut. She opened up about her struggle to get work despite being in the industry for so many years. She claimed that no one had offered her any work and added that she was not someone who would ‘beg for work’.
Warina Husain who made her film debut in the Aayush Sharma starrer ‘Loveyatri’, has sadly not bagged another film role since 2018. While her co-star Aayush has gone on to feature in a couple of films, Warina has only featured in a couple of music videos and was seen in a dance sequence in ‘Dabangg 3’.
Sooraj Pancholi made his debut in 2015 with the film ‘Hero’, opposite fellow debutant Athiya Shetty. The actor, who was recently acquitted in the Jiah Khan death case, opened up about spending his ‘entire 20s in courts’ trying to prove his innocence. All the courtroom drama seemingly took a toll on his career. He got his next film after four years titled ‘Satellite Shankar’ and was most recently seen in ‘Time To Dance’.
Fardeen Khan made his Bollywood debut in the 1998 film ‘Prem Aggan’ opposite Meghna Kothari. Sadly for the actor, the film tanked at the box office and threatened to end his career. Khan could not find work for over 2 years and finally managed to bag ‘Jungle’ before delivering his first big hit with Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. He went on to add blockbusters like All The Best, Fun Begins and Heyy Babyy to his credit before fading away from the spotlight soon after. After a decade away from the industry, he is set to make his big-screen comeback later this year.
Gayatri Joshi made her big screen debut in the critically acclaimed Ashutosh Gowarikar directorial ‘Swades’ opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Despite winning awards for the Best Female Debut she was never seen or heard of again on the big screen. Soon after she tied the knot and decided to give her dedicate all her time to her family.
This list also features Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. The actor who made his Bollywood debut with the 1989 film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, claimed that he has been out of work for nearly 6 months following as he quipped that his leading lady Bhagyashree ‘ran away’ with the credit of the film’s success. He also revealed that his father Salim Khan had to intervene and asked producer GP Sippy to announce that he had signed Salman for a project which prompted producers like Ramesh Taurani among many others to come forward and sign him on their projects.
