Suraj Venjaramoodu’s Higuita gets release date – The Indian Express

Suraj Venjaramoodu’s film Higuita now has a release date. The movie, which has been in production since the pandemic and faced issues last year regarding its title, will hit screens with its original title on March 31.
Last December, there was a huge debate around the film’s title Higuita. When debutant director Hemanth G Nair announced his movie Higuita with a poster, it quickly led to a controversy. Popular Malayalam writer NS Madhavan said that the name Higuita was popularised in Kerala by his short story of the same name, and he claimed rights over the title. However, Nair claimed that his film’s title was inspired by Colombian footballer Rene Higuita and it has nothing to do with Madhavan’s short story.
On the other hand, the Malayalam writer held that Rene Higuita wasn’t as popular as he is now in Kerala before his short story, and said that his short story was the reason behind the footballer’s name being commonplace in the state. This led to a divisive opinion across Kerala with many supporting the writer and backing his claim. On the other hand, many questioned how the name of a person can become the property of a single person.
Looks like things have finally worked out in favour of Hemanth G Nair as the latest poster bears the title Higuita along with the release date.
Other than Suraj Venjaramoodu, Higuita also stars Dhyan Sreenivasan, Shine Tom Chacko, Indrans and Manoj K Vijayan in pivotal roles. The film revolves around a politician and his bodyguard (who is a die-hard fan of the footballer Rene Higuita).
